I remember watching Clerks when it was on ABC, out of order (they showed it out of order... the second episode doesn't make sense without the first one)
Yeah, they showed the fourth episode first, then like the 2nd, which as you pointed out, made no sense if you had never seen the first one.
Ever listen to the commentary on the DVD? Smith and co. never mention ABC by name, but they make it abundantly clear that something scared the network shitless between the Super Bowl (when it got a coveted preview ad) and its actual premiere. They just don't know what it was.

Maybe they were afraid that it was too intelligent for their general viewing audience. That will always kill a show.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they thought it was too intelligent. I got the impression from the DVD commentary they thought quite the opposite.
