Humpday Haiku: The Dark Bank of Lockers

Dark Bank of Lockers

Lots of Flickr love for it

great for quick capture

The Dark Bank of Lockers

Seriously, I snapped that as I was walking around the lockerroom next to my office. I barely took the time to frame the darn thing, yet it turned out so well. It's sort of amazing where the love will come from sometimes. Maybe its because I've seen that view so many times myself that it seems so unremarkable to me...who knows.

Towson University Homecoming 08: A Journey in Photos

So, I took a reduced role today, and it allowed me to snap some shots. Follow a behind the scenes look at Homecoming Game Day.

A REAL Bart's Eye View!

Taking Pictures with One Hand...Driving with the Other 10

Seriously, that's about what it looks like when I'm driving. Okay, Maybe my eyes are a little higher and about 4 inches farther back, but that's pretty close to what it looks like to me as I drive off campus and make my way to the Baltimore Beltway for my commute home.

Photo Hunt: Anything We Darn Well Pleased.

So, for this weeks foray in to the Photo Hunt, I chose this picture I took way back when I first got my PowerShot S3 IS, testing out the macro. Wires coming off the end of a cooling fan sitting on the shelf at my bench at work. Looks like they're stretching out ta grab ya. This was one of the first shots I took where I really thought to myself...hey, I can do this photography thing a little bit.

There you have it.

Odd Shots - No Cash Value

Another photo thing to keep me shooting, though to be fair, this first entry it's all about a shot from the archives.

This shot came from pure improvisation. Nick, the man holding the coin, had found it, and I was messing with my camera at the time. So, I asked him to hold it up for me to take a macro shot of it. What really sells it, I think, is the expression Nick decided to give as I snapped the shot. Rest assured, this isn't his normal expression.

Photo Hunt: Time

This seems like fun, plus a good way to keep me shooting. So here we go.

I was actually shooting the classic Bromo Seltzer Tower in Baltimore, but obviously the clock tower right next to it is in the shot. Figured this would be a nice deviation from some standards.

I Discovered Something on Saturday...

Shooting lacrosse is hard.

Here are some of the shots that actually came out half decent. You'll notice that there are very few action shots. There are some that refer to it as "the fastest sport on two feet." I can tell you they may be right after trying to photograph it.

Senior Blake Best, about to restart play from the endline.

Not sure who this is (can't make the number out, but I think it's 41, Tim Stratton), "cradling" the ball as he was trying to avoid an oncoming defender who didn't make it in to the shot.

A Towson player after getting rocked, looks to be 23, Clint Brakebill. If you have keen eyes, you'll see the he still has possession of the ball, though, good for him.

One of the things I love about the sport is that when the ball hits the ground sometimes, it simply becomes chaos. Tiger player off his feet, and a Penn player stuffed by his own teammate as they both are trying to get the ball at their own feet.

Two Tigers celebrating after a score.

Tiger moving on the net, ball cradled in stick, longstick defender right behind him, another defender right above him. Looks like it might be Clint Brakebill again

Some of the other shots were interesting, but not post worthy. Either blurry (or I had the wrong perspective in focus...like a few shots of faceoffs from ground level that would have looked great had I not been focused on the ground about 5 feet in front of them) or simply poorly framed with no easy fix. But enjoy these, lacrosse fans and non lacrosse fans alike.

You Take Better Pictures!

Took these from the plane on the way to Vegas. Rocky Mountains from way up high.

Yeah, I rule, I know.

How Was Your Trip?

See you in the fall, as the old joke goes.

Had an okay time. Bit disappointing really. Could have been high expectations, or it could have been an actual drop off from last years trip, I dunno for sure. I had some fun with my new tripod, enjoyed the company of course, but other than that I'm enjoying this time off at home more. Go figure, right?

Did see a dead body though. Day we got there, heading out to the resort, there was a traffic jam between Montego Bay and Sandy Bay. We get through to see a head on collision and a dead body on the side of the road. Kinda freaky, really. Maybe that set the tone for the whole trip.

Here are some more pictures.

And since some people have mentioned that I've gotten away with never showing myself:
Not bad for what is pretty much a self portrait. I heart my new tripod. Thanks honey!

Bart's Eye View...

...has moved!

bartseyeview.blogspot.com

I figure that if I'm gonna put tons of images up, I might want to diversify my assets. I won't stop totally here, but that's where I'll be gung-ho about it. There's also a Flickr sidebar to see everything I've uploaded there. So, keep an eye on that space...

Bart's Eye View

I wandered out in to the backyard earlier, and saw looked up at the old DirectTV dish on the roof from when my dad got suckered in to their service. Had the camera, so I got this shot of it. I think it turned out rather well.

In other news, I may post Chapter 1 of The Reunion Tour tomorrow. I won't post more than Chapter 3 or so, though. However, I may put samples up or if privately requested for them.

Also, you may or may not have noticed that the banner picture has changed. No longer is it the eyes of a Blue Man, but now, it's all me.

Play Ball (Bart's Eye View)

Here's a very small sampling of pictures I took last night at the Oriole game (another freakin' loss). These are the ones I'm particularly proud of.

Freddy Bynum sliding back in to second on a pick off play. Note the ball coming towards first from the right side of the frame.

Cory Doyne, only brought up to the club that afternoon, warming up in the pen.

Doyne's first pitch as a Major Leaguer.

And for perspective, a shot with very little zoom applied.

Have a good Sunday, everyone. Don't forget to throw up your last lines for yesterday's Rhyme...and Treason.

New Camera! New Camera! (Bart's Eye View)

Edit: I have answered David's call to duty.

I now am the proud owner of the Canon Powershot S3 IS. HOORAY!

Here is the first official shot taken with the camera, a rotten stump in my backyard. And to me, it's perfect.
Why? This is exactly what I saw. And it was quite easy. Once again...HOORAY!

As soon as I get my larger memory card (to save money, I got it from a different place) I'll take even more pictures and try fancier stuff.

So, David McMahon wasn't content with letting me experiment on my own (bless him), and gave me an assignment, which I was glad to take up. I've completed it. I took a crap load of pictures of the same stump, but from the ground up, keeping the stump lower in the frame. I fooled around with different settings, and here are my two favs.

I love how the clouds are between the chipped out top there, not to mention how clear I got both the stump and the clouds. I do believe for this shot I had it on full auto.

MOUNT DOOM! CAST THE RING IN TO THE FIRE, FRODO! For this shot, I used shutter speed priority, and went slower. I do believe the full auto had the shutter speed nearly at it's fastest, while for this I set it to about 1/300 or so (I took a few, changing the shutter speed each time). All it really did was slightly lighten the inside of the stump some, but I like the overall effect it creates to the picture.

Also, I didn't have to crawl on my stomach for these shots, for the S3 IS has a swivel LCD...awesome!
