I shall now discuss how I would have taken the plot of the third movie. I know I'm not alone on this plot direction, not by a long shot, but you tell me if this wouldn't have been a much cooler concept. And you still could have had your mishmash of eastern and western religions with Neo being the amalgamation of the holy personages.
The end of the second movie had The Architect lecturing Neo about levels of control, and how this isn't the first time, not by a long shot, that "the One" has been introduced to the programming. Then, Neo finds that he can control things in the real world as he can in the Matrix.
This has interesting possibilities that weren't even remotely thought about in the third movie. Let's explore them now:
In the third movie, it should have been discovered that "the real world," the shitty existence led by the freedom fighters...was simply another level of control. Hinted at by The Architect, this level was to keep the really rebellious minds under control with the illusion of freedom. Make the conditions really crappy, make them think they're freeing others and fighting for their lives in their own world, when really...they're plugged in the same as everyone else. Only this incarnation of Neo evolves. He does things "in the real world" that he could only do in the Matrix, and this causes him to break free of the Matrix, and come to the realization that what he thought was "the real world" was bogus. He then finds a way to free Morpheus and company...etc.
How much cooler would that have been? All that hinting for nothing...a really interesting story that really fits well in to the mythos...nada. Oh well. Guess that's why I'm here typing this stuff and not getting paid for it, right?
Also, in camera news, check out this photo!

Set the shutter speed nice and low, and took it only with the low ambient light. Hence the table (no tripod). Again, this turned exactly as my naked eye perceived it, with the exception of the twinkly christmas lights. I'm particularly proud of the glow of the computer monitor, both on Chris Taydus' face, and on the overhang above the desk area.
In other camera news...it scares the piss out of Elmo. I think when it's on, it must emit a high pitch frequency that he can hear, but we can't.
WOW! With that story line, The Matrix could have gone on and on, each film being about discovering that THAT level was bogus, and going up to the next one. Then in the next film, it's all discovered to be bogus again, and they get out of it. And then in the next one, it's all bogus, so they get out of it. And each level can have bigger and bigger spaceships and monsters. And on and up they go. Until in Matrix 26 they discover they are all in a Buddhist's dream about Karma, and he wakes up and they disappear.
ReplyDeleteI vote James Brown for the theme tune.
I saw the first Matrix. I must just be dumb or something though. It was too much for me. I fell asleep about half an hour in. =/
ReplyDeleteWell most films nowadays are pretty crap in my opinion, let alone a THIRD one. I can't remember if Ive even seen the third one...b.t.bear has the right idea about movies; bigger spaceships, uglier monsters and a bigger budget.
ReplyDeleteNice blog by the way, I like the way you organised everything into catergories including 'How utterly awesome I am' lol

ReplyDeleteWell, you could go that route. But I was only going to do it once...

ReplyDeleteDifferent strokes for different folks, really. If you "couldn't get" the first one, the second one would have been like watching a foreign film with no subtitles. Well, not all of it, but it got really wordy there near the end.

ReplyDeleteIt's not really the films today are crap, it's that there are waaaaay more of them. Same amount of crap, per capita.
Don't forget the counter category of "How utterly awesome I'm not."
Maaaaaaan . . . the third installation of the Matrix phenomenon was CRAP!
ReplyDeleteUsually I get all whiney when ppl make sacrcastic comments throughout the movie but I was spurrin ppl on in the PACKED out cinema!
Matrix Revolution was LAME . . . and you're right, they could have done so much more with it. I guess they had a ton of ideas and went with the worst one.
And i also heard the they stole the concept and screen play of the first Matrix and thats why the to that followed were so lame.
I might have to snatch your blog idea and write about how I thought the 3rd matrix could have been improved.

ReplyDeleteMore power to you, buddy. Riff as much as you want on the topic. I know most people were completely underwhelmed by the third one.
