I'm Not Budging On This

With Michael Bay's Transformers right around the corner, I feel it's time to stress a very important fact.

This is Bumblebee.

Not this.

Are we clear?

There's a lame excuse thrown out there that they changed him from a VW Beetle to a Camaro because they didn't want comparisons to Herbie the Love Bug. 1) Doubt the target audience is going to make that dubious connection, and 2) How do they know that Bumblebee wasn't a tip of the cap to Herbie in the first place? Meh, it's not high art, but I get the feeling this had more to do with the Chevy product tie-ins.

And while I'm at it...there was no need to put flames on Optimus Prime.

In other news, did you notice my background is not solid black anymore? Star field. I think it looks pretty good. Subtle, yet still pretty cool looking.

  1. kinda like how ET originally liked M&Ms?

oh wait, I just wikipedia-ed that....I thought M&Ms were in the book version with Reese's pieces placed in the movie.

The book version was actually the novelization. When they went to print, they must have still been vying to see who got to be the candy sponsor, with M&M's looking like the winner. Reese's eventually won the bidding war, though.

  3. Hi Bart-Man,

    It's the Love Buck syndrome.

    (I think)

That's a pun that whoosed over my head.

I never said he wouldn't be in the flick. I'm taking umbrage with the fact that a classic character was changed so radically.

Why didn't they go ahead and make Optimus Prime a SUV? I understand the reasoning behind Megatron because I always thought it was silly (in context) that he became a tiny gun. I read somewhere that someone said it would be like Darth Vader transforming in to his own lightsaber.

But having Bumblebee go from a Beetle to a Camaro reeks of product placement.

  7. Bart,

This is why I will enjoy this movie more than you will. And sadly, I'm not sure I;m even looking forward to it.

I am too dumb to know otherwise about bumblebees. I'd call it a yellow car.

  11. I don't see any stars! Does your new background come with a mallet plug-in that my computer doesn't have? ;-)

  12. So did you see this movie? We saw it on some midnight preview. Not bad. Though I think the final 20 minute battle scene at the end was about 18 minutes too long.

Feel free to comment. So that I may respond and possibly mock and ridicule you. Just kidding. Maybe. We'll see what you say first, how about that.
